Johannes Seidlitz finishes second in 2008 racing season!

Johannes had his last Formula Renault BARC championship race in England October 4th and 5th. Coming in first he was able to secure second position of the championship.
The weather during the two qualifiers was cold but dry. During the first qualifier Johannes battled traffic and came in sixth place.
The second qualifier did not go much better for the German racer. Though Johannes had a few good rounds he was not able to get beyond sixth place again.
After those two qualifiers Johannes said in an interview: “Today nothing went right for me. During our test race on Friday I was able to consistently reach the Top 3. Today during the first qualifier there was too much traffic to deal with which kept me from putting down a good round. There were a lot of starters and many slower cars which made it hard to find a gap on this short track. During the second qualifier I was able to find some gaps that helped me to attack and make some good time but not as good as I wanted to. Two sixth starting positions are not ideal for the race tomorrow but we’ll do our best.“
Sunday morning it was raining hard on the race track in England. Races had to be delayed because the track was drowning in water and the race management decided it was too dangerous to race. After a 90 minute delay the first race finally started.
Johannes had a good start and was able to reach third position during the first three rounds. He did not stay third for long and took second position quickly. During the sixth of 14 rounds Johannes’ car spun out in a curve and he had to end the race prematurely.
Johannes: “I had a few great rounds in the beginning, made it to second position and in the last curve I made a mistake. One tire locked up and was not able to regain control of my car. It’s very disappointing as I usually do great in rainy weather. Now I will focus on the second race and try to get as many points as possible and maybe even win.“
The second race this Sunday was held during the late afternoon hours. The track had dried out quite a bit and everybody was wondering which tires to use. Should it be rain tires or slicks? Johannes, his engineer Peter and his mechanic Chris decided to go for slicks and a mixed setup prepared for rain as well as a dry race track.
Johannes had an incredible start to the second Formula Renault BARC race of this weekend. Before going into the first curve he had already gone from 6th place to 3rd. During the first round he was able to make it to second place and on the home stretch of the first round he was able to come equal with the first place. Avoiding a collision Johannes was able to force first placed Ross Curnow to slow down during the first curve. After that Johannes built up a comfortable lead of five seconds halfway through the race. He was able to hold his lead and win the last race of the Formula Renault BARC championship.

Johannes came in 2nd place in the overall standings in his first year at Formula Renault BARC. This is a great success and proof that more German drivers belong into Formula 1.
Johannes after his fantastic victory: “Incredible. I still can’t believe it. The second race went perfect today. I had a great start and an amazing first round which I was able to finish second. I was able to pass Ross quickly and build a great lead. I am overjoyed to have reached second place in this championship. I had a great year. The team kept improving and did great work. Thanks to my mechanic Chris my car never had a mechanical defect. I also want to thank Peter Sieber my engineer for the great setups. I was able to learn a lot this year and have made quite some progress that I will use this coming season.
This winter Johannes will test several cars to decide which one to drive next year.
